It is official now. Nearly 14 years after people first ventured into the streets to demand democratic rights in a brutal police state, the Bashar al-Assad regime of Syria fell down in a dramatic fashion early on Sunday.

According to the Associated Press, President Assad and his immediate family members left Damascus for an undisclosed destination after rebel forces entered the capital city. As dawn broke over Syria, people woke up to a new reality — a country without Assad after more than 54 years of rule by the House of Assad.

Amid grinding rumor mill and swirling speculations, nobody knows where the fugitive Assad went for now. Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi Jalali offered the advancing rebel forces an olive branch to kickstart the transition process.
